LAND-BASED
ART INSTALLATIONS

Calling all Westchester artists, makers, and creative spirits to contribute to the visual magic of the Sleepy Hollow Mermaid Festival at Kingsland Point Park!

We are looking for temporary, site-specific installations that celebrate and are inspired by the Hudson River—its history, its wildlife, and of course, Mermaids.

This open call is a community-driven, volunteer art initiativefor land-based art installations only.

ARTIST GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Artwork must be free-standing or safely be hung on or hang from trees.

  • Swift Setup & Strike: All work must be designed for easy assembly and disassembly. You must be able to install and remove your work within the same day.

  • Total Removal: No trace of the artwork may be left behind. All materials, fasteners, and debris must be taken home by the artist immediately after the festival concludes.

  • Eco-Conscious Materials: Since we are celebrating river stewardship, all materials must be environmentally safe. No glitter, uncontained confetti, or small plastics that could blow into the river.

  • Land-Bound: All installations must be securely placed on land and be mindful of weather and wind conditions at Kingsland Point Park. No floating or water-based entries will be permitted.-

IMPORTANT DATES

- Submission Deadline: Monday, June 15, 2026
- Artist Selection: Wednesday, July 1, 2026 (selected artist will be notified on this date)
- Installation Window: 

  • Friday, July 17 between the hours of 3:00pm - 8:00pm

  • Saturday, July 18 - 9:00am -11:00am

- Take-Down: Saturday, July 18, immediately following the festival.

HOW TO APPLY

Please submit all the following information through the link in the button below.

  1. Name & Contact Info

  2. Project Description: A brief summary (100 words or less) of your proposed installation and how it is inspired by the Hudson River.

  3. Visuals: A sketch, photo of a model, or reference images of your proposed work. Accepted file types -JPEG, PNG, PDF. Please label your files as follows and be sure to include your name in the parentheses - SHMF 26 OPEN CALL_(Name of Artist). If you submit more than one file, please include the file number in the file name (e.g. SHMF OPEN CALL_Ariel Sirenas_1; SHMF OPEN CALL_Ariel Sirenas_2, etc.)

  4. Material List: A list of the primary materials you intend to use.

  5. Logistics: A brief note confirming your plan for same-day setup and complete removal.
